The Vanguard Schools approach
is a recognition of each students individual worth. We seek to develop
in each students the ability:
| -To
work cooperatively. |
| -To
be willing to accept responsibility. |
| -To
be considerate of others. |
| -To
develop a positive self concept. |
| -To
develop personal self respect. |
| -To
be respectful of others. |
Marginal difficulties in
the visual and/or auditory processing of information and atypical learning
patterns make it difficult for some students to be successful in traditional
educational programs. Minimal progress in reading, language arts, math
or the ability to write may result from a variety of causes. These
students are classified as having learning or social related difficulties
and/or an attention deficit. Many of these students have good intellectual
potential and with an appropriate educational program can acquire
the necessary skills to return to traditional placements and ultimately
be come self-sufficient adults and contributing members of society.
The Vanguard School of Coconut
Grove will provide an individualized program in a positive, nurturing,
and structured environment which will enable the student to develop
academically, socially and personally "to be the best they can
be".
Individualized Goals
The Academic program is
based on each students individualized educational plan (I.E.P.). The
intake process begins with a review of previous school, medical and
psycho-educational evaluations. A personal interview is conducted with
the parents and then with the prospective student. Following enrollment,
additional academic evaluations are conducted in an effort to develop
an on-going individualized educational plan for each student which establishes
specific levels of mastery and identifies patterns of strength and weakness.
Small Class size (Maximum
of 10) structure, supportive academic specialists (reading and
Math), remedial and diagnostic teaching are all utilized to assist each
student to be "the best he or she can be".
Since our primary goal is
to return each student to a traditional program we stress the development
of homework skills, social and organizational skills and well as the
ability to think, write and communicate.
